Bardiya lies in the mid- western Bheri zone in Nepal. It has an area of 2,025 km² and its headquarter is Gulariya. Its surrounding districts are banke in the West, Surkhet in the North, Kailali in the East and Utter Pradesh of India in the south.
Bardia is a smooth Terai belt with lush of greenery. There are big forests as well as fertile plains for agriculture. Most people here do agriculture. Bardiya National park which is the largest undisturbed wilderness in Nepal's Terai, lies here which covers an area of 968 km2.National park provides forest, grassland and riverine habitat for endangered mammal, bird and reptile species. More than 30 species of mammals and more than 250 of birds have been recorded. Bardiya is divided on the eastern side by Geruwa River, which is one of the branch rivers of Sapta Karnali. It s believed that Gangetic dolphin , an endangered mammal is seen on those waters.
